And my last hurrah.

See this and this for more information. Basically, I'm dealing with a lot of things offline right now and I (obviously) can't give attention to things that are, more often than not, deserving of my full, undivided attention. I haven't managed this place well and I don't think that things are going to change any time soon. I have to fix other things first before I can come back.

So I ask you--

Is there anyone who would like to man Paper Thickets in my absence? Feel free to comment here or otherwise contact me if you would be interested and I'll try to get back to you asap. Please don't be offended if I don't pick you :< If no one wants to, though, that's fine too, I won't take it personally haha.

I've really enjoyed digging up prompts and seeing everyone's incredibly imaginative responses and it would be a shame to let it die when it's still so young! I think there's a great thing going here. I just can't be around for it right now.

There is no crime greater...

..than stealing a heart.

Oh man I am so happy for that extension ;u;

I thought of this almost as soon as the prompt came out but had a horrible art block that cleared up like..yesterday :| So man. I really hope fjskdljf this is even appropriate for the theme? Because I am going to feel pretty silly if it isn't. fff Sorry it's all pencil and sketchy and hard to see :( I'm really rusty with pencils but I thought I'd only make it worse if I tried to color and omg *stops rambling and toodlepips*

CONTEST EXTENSION

I will extend these shenanigans to tomorrow and tomorrow only. I am dead tired man! I was silly to put the deadline on this weekend, where I would be drained and completely without internet. So it would be really unfair for me to judge everything now without proper time put into the decision.

But tomorrow is it, so if you want to start/finish anything, nooowww iiiss youuurr chaaance.

Girl's Got a Gun

What is going on here? Is it a case of extreme sibling rivalry? Or perhaps hell really does hath no fury like a woman scorned. Or maybe the dude just took the last doughnut from the mafia's breakroom.
Either way.
Girl's got a gun and she knows how to use it.

IDES OF MARCH RESPONSE (SDGHASDG TOTALLY LATE)

oh god oh god I DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION TO THE TIME asdghasg I KNOW THIS IS TOTALLY LATE BY LIKE ONE FULL HOUR but well HERE IS THE WIP ANYWAY IN ALL ITS... UNFINISHED ... glory....

edit: more finished version 9___6

oc, viktor chistyakov, who actually remains pretty ambiguous and weird throughout the story but is still potentially a big bad baby-eating antagonist. aaaa. i hope he looks suitably evil here, resplendent in his weird, nonsensical color scheme...

also hi i'm sophia this is my first post here to my shame. ;_;

D-did I make it?

ACH PLEASE SAY I MADE IT

For the Ides of March Contest! Sorry I hadn't uploaded in a while-this isnt just my first post here in months, it's the first real painting I've been half-proud of in months! Jan's sister, Halia, conversing with the Red Society's archmage (who has accidentally locked himself in another dimension and can only appear in her world as a literal talking head). She knows that he has a soft spot for her and she is a exploiting it, that wily girl! Noone knows what any of that means but it is part of the plot for a story I've been toying with about a race around the world.

IDES OF MARCH: PLOTTING AND VILLAINY CONTEST

SSSSSSSSSSSSssssssssssssssssssssssssssssoooooooo hello I hope you are all doing well. Making any progress on those contest entries? Just figured I'd shoot you a friendly reminder to keep us all (including myself) updated.

Keep these things in mind...

Theme: Plotting and Villainy
Deadline: April 03, 12:00 AM
Prizes: 3 places, 3 types of prizes. All consist of chibi art-- fullcolour or sketch.

It'd be pretty tragic if no one entered the contest!

... But then again, if no one enters, it'll be a learning experience (for me) just the same. Not that I'm encouraging that ;O;

Okay! Goodnight!

IDES OF MARCH! MONTHLY MARCH MADNESS CONTEST EXTRAVAGANZA BONANZA H'ALRIGHT!!! FALCON PAONCH!

Following up with the previous post, this is CONTEST INFO!

This contest is being held in honour of the Ides of March and is due on April 03.

The theme is...

Plotting and Villainy!

Draw a scheming antagonist! Write about a clever sneaksneak! Take pictures of a burglaring rapscallion! Vagabonds! Rogues! Scoundrels! Scamps! Scalawags! Hooligans! Hoodlums! Ruffians! Gracious me!

See previous entry for more info on prizes.

The winners will be judged on how creatively and skilfully they can execute the theme. There will be three judges (including myself) to decide who wins based on that. The judges aren't allowed to enter the contest of course, but they are allowed to draw something separately-- it just can't be entered.

I'll edit this entry when I'm less crazy with excitement!

March Monthly Prompt Info :: CONTEST!!

Hey guys. I let everyone have an extension, so if you wanted to finish up your Labyrinth prompt you were more than welcome to, and if you still want to get something in before the 28th, now is your chance.

Because guess what.

I've decided that March's monthly prompt will beeee A CONTEST! The winner(s) will be determined by viewer's choice in a poll. The winner will get to request art from me! It will be in this style (ie my version of a chibi):

1st prize - Two of your characters/whoever's characters interacting, full coloured with basic background like the above.

2nd prize - One of your characters fully coloured.

3rd prize - Sketch of your character.

More info (as well as the prompt) coming as I get this all worked out. Drop some comments and let me know what you think, or if you have any suggestions/issues/kittens.

Prompt VIII Response

Ciaran hasn't put up the new prompt, SOOOOOOOOOOOO I'm assuming/taking advantage that its still open. 8|

Sorry for the messy/overdone photoshop. School and work and homework and life keeps crapping on me. :( I luckily sketched/inked this last week but then spaced out on it. Poo.
Kind of self explanatory, I think? These are characters from one of my graphic novel idears (oh boy, ANOTHER spin-off of Alice in Wonderland...).
...pleasedon'tusearuleragainstthis. :(

Prompt VIII Response

took the extension time to do an alternate interpretation:

because some labyrinths don't have walls.
because sometimes one still needs help to get out of them.

Prompt VIII: Labyrinth

I keep falling off the earth, I'm sorry. I think I'm going to have to designate someone to be my proxy when it comes to posting! I never have internet when I'm supposed to be posting the prompts. Sorry about that.

Anyway. This week's is another one from the "Your Choice" entry. (And totally not because there was some mention of David Bowie elsewhere on the internet. I swear!)

Due Monday, February 15th, at 12AM, is Labyrinth! Interpret it in whatever way you will. There are no limits.

Go forth and create.

Hope this isn't too late/ Phobia Prompt Response

I've always had this fear.
Of being alone.
Letting this rule me, I have
Pushed everyone away that wanted to have anything to do with me.

They'd just leave me anyway.

It's happened before.
I wonder if it has something to do with those hormones...
Pheremones?
Not sure.
The ones that make it so that people want to be around you, want to be with you.
Maybe mine are broken.
Nobody seems to stick around me.

So I try to push everyone away,
Tell them 'it's not you, it's me'.
Because I'm sure that in some way
It is me.
It has to be.

I've always had this fear.
Of being alone.
And guess what?
I am.

So hi. This is my first time actually posting something here.

Prompt VII Response

Does anyone else see a pattern to this weeks submissions? Everyone's character is nude. I wonder if this means anything. *thinking pose*
Anyways, I already did a pic featuring my phobias, so now for something completely different!

Featuring my OC, Rev. His greatest phobia is bodies of water (lakes, rivers, oceans, etc.), and by association, drowning. It does not help that he's immortal, so if he is weighed down and dropped in the ocean, he basically dies over and over again. Not fun.

prompt vii response

your daily allotment of emo string and random-ass bird skulls:

This came out as less of a phobia and more of an anxiety: something ambiguous about being trapped and vulnerable and lost. My actual phobias are failure and injections (not at the same time) and I didn't feel like drawing those.

(clumsily applied texture from here)

(oh hey I'm new here, hi.)

prompt vii response

my first time posting here, fffffffrrrrrr hi. HEY TIT WARNING, NSFW AND ALL THAT there is a nipple, etc. i was going to add clothes, but i really didn't feel like it by the time i got around to it.

i particularly have a thing where i'm afraid im going to loose one of my limbs, particularly my hands. now that would just suck, really. my other fears all end up tying into loosing a body part some way or another in the end, so i guess this is my worst fear. oh uh just to clarify this isnt a self portrait of any kind, um, just a chick who lost her hands

im bad at posting publically hi

Prompt VII: Your choice - PHOBIA

So, so very sorry about the random promptless week. Things have been a little hectic, but I'll try to have everything on time from now on. (If it gets any worse, I'll appoint someone to take charge.)

Thanks very much for everyone's input when I asked for your ideas for prompt VII. This week, due February 1st by 12AM, is "Phobia".

This can be a fear/phobia of yourself, a character, anything. If you feel like expressing this fear in visuals or text would be triggering in some way, maybe try to approach it from a more conceptual and abstract angle.

Have at it, comrades.

Prompt VI Response

I
I DON'T EVEN

A couple years ago me and some friends made this derpy superhero universe. One of the archnemesis..'s of the three "superheroes" was Toy Soldier, who was actually a guy who worked in a hobby shop the main heroes messed with a lot, and he could make toys come to life and shit. And they totally knew each others secret identities but they're too retarded to you know, make use of that. They just liked to go into each others work places and be all "HURR HURR YOU ARE DUMB I'MA KILL YOU LATER. AFTER I GET OFF WORK AND GO HOME AND EAT DINNER AND FEED MY PETS IDK MAYBE TOMORROW INSTEAD. IS THAT GOOD FOR YOU?"

Basically my train of thought was: doomsday device = super heroes = really ridiculous villains with weather machines = this retarded universe = toy soldier with DOOMSDAY TOY (which was going to be like Voltron or some shit but turned into Raggedy Ann IDKKKK)

Prompt VI

This is my dorky doomsday device, complete with giant button that you totally should not touch but probably will anyways. Curiosity and all that. >:D

Prompt VII: YOUR CHOICE

For Prompt VII/7, it's up to you to come up with prompt ideas. Post your ideas here and one will be randomly chosen for next week.

Thanks so much for any and all input, and good luck on this week's prompt!

Prompt VI info

Ah! A new prompt! Could it be true?! It could be if you want it to be --! Thanks all for participating during the past weeks and sorry for disappearing for a while. I hope you've all been having a wonderful holiday season, or, if sans holidays, I hope you've just been enjoying yourselves.

So, on with this week's prompt.

It is...

Doomsday [device]

As always, you're free to respond in whatever way you feel like. Prose, poetry, photography, music, and, of course, drawings. There are no limits to how you feel like conveying the theme in your image.

Due Monday, January 18th at midnight

Prompt I

This is for the winter journey prompt.

These are my characters Wellow (left) and Lon (right). They would pretty much fail at winter and snowtime cause they're both desert doods. I imagine Wellow reading the map upside down and Lon complaining the whole time. orz;;

Prompt II Response

I've been a lurker here, just taking in all of your lovely stuff.

Thanks for the extension, I'm glad to finally have something to contribute.
I just drew my character De because he's such a source of comfort to me.
I'd also drawn a nude self-portrait recently and got to wondering. Bodies are very expressive.

Prompt I extension

I'm extending the deadline for Prompt I (Winter Journey) until this Monday. In fact, if you have any unfinished things you wanted to post but was unable to, and can get them in before then, that's fine too. Then the new prompt for 2010 will start up this Monday (January 4th).

Hope you're all having a lovely night and that 2010 starts and continues swimmingly.
